Romantic & Family Relationships
No human lives in a vacuum, and our relationships and experiences with significant others in our lives have a profound impact on us. Whether you want to address the implications of your (snoring) bed partner, your inherited health beliefs, or one or more of your identities, I also utilize my extensive training in couples and family therapy to improve your physical and mental health. I’ve extensively trained in Family Systems therapy and use this to inform both individual and couples work.
I have specialized training and practice in Integrative Behavioral Couples therapy and aim to develop specific feedback and goals for your marriage or relationship collaboratively with you, after a thorough assessment. Along with weekly/biweekly goals and activities, past relationship experiences and behaviors are also continuously considered during the active treatment. Relationship concerns can be medical-/illness-related or not.
I often use a family systems framework to assess and address current functioning and obstacles. Treatment can include exploration of experiences and learnings from the family of origin to the extent clinically indicated/desired.
Discrimination and early adversity have been empirically associated with problems in both physical and mental health. To the extent clinically indicated or personally desired, treatment can explore the impact of one or several identities, particularly minority identities. Experiences often considered in treatment are those associated with racial, cultural, ethnic, religious or sexual minorities, people with disabilities, socioeconomic status, and first- or second-generation Americans or college students.
